he came back from some hole at the end of the ocean, and he bore on his shoulders the sea wrack of that hole, and on his body the barnacles, and on his middle the stingers and tentacles of a hundred jellyfish, and he came upon the dock at the edge of the beach and stopped to watch a group of young men load a boat with fishing supplies, and he thought that he might warn them of the hole and poison and the sorrows of the sink, and he thought about the promise he had made as he made his way back from the hole, that he would tell men of such a sink, that he would save them from the sink, but then he thought that he felt too tired, but he also thought that perhaps the men deserved it. He let the boys go. He watched the boys go. He sat on the dock and squeezed the seawater from his hair. He smiled. He died.
